Girls Varsity: After a four year absence from CHAT, the Gray Academy Varsity Girls team is ready to show off some serious skills! After an amazing season last year, finishing second in the zone, the team is prepared to face any obstacle at hand. Last year the Raiders finished with an overall record of 14-6 proving to everyone that they meant serious business. The Raiders are known for their hard-work, commitment to the team, and unbreakable defensive skills. Led by Coaches Jamie Kagan and Jason Goldstine, the Raiders have shown to be a team of heart and passion. The team veterans, Rachel Goldberg, Jess Donen and Lauren Slusky are ready to lead the team to victory. Yael Kaplan, Meka Kraut and Baillie Winestock enable our team to succeed with their technique, aggression and love of the game.  Naomi Wolfe, Lexie Yurman, Amy Vine, Ashley Kaufman, Miki Goldberg, Sheara Raber and Meira Raber may be newer members to the team but their hustle, drive, steals and rebounds make them look like long time veterans. We are happy to welcome the newest member of our team, Lauren Yusim, an up and coming threat.

Boys Varsity: The varsity boys basketball team finished second in the cross-town zone 12 division for the 2007 season. The team has many returning players, including, Aden Bennaroch, Jonathan Ripstein, Mitchell Billinkoff, Shia Richter, Jared Ackerman and Brayden Bernstein. Girls Varsity : Commitment, dedication, fun, these are only some of the words that come to mind when describing the Sr. Girls Cougars basketball team. The Cougars had an outstanding season this year lead by the incredibly talented Kovac twins. The Cougars started off their season finishing in second place at the Huron Heights Tournament, which gave them confidence for their upcoming season. Being their first time competing in Tier 1, the Cougars did an exceptional job, ending their regular season in third place with a record of 6-4. They are known for their sharp shooting, speed, and aggressive defence. Head coach Jeff Krupski’s love for basketball inspires the girls to improve and always give 100% every time they’re on the court. With veterans Elise Kovac, Julie Kovac, Dani Kagan, Alana Streisfield, Alyssa Birbrager, Laella Saffer, and newcomers Andrea Lebovic, Elyssa Seidman, Michelle Vekselshtein, Danitte Kozai, Leigh Even, Libby Vainshtein, as well as two Grade 10s Leorah Klein and Sarah Edgerley, the Cougars are ready to show their skills and lead their team to victory.

Almost equally divided between rookies and returning players, the Tigers came together and developed strong team play. The forwards, Madeleine Venn-Mitchell, Aviva Webb, Ilana Shiff, Laura Wilchesky, Aviva Pratzer and Hillary Zarnett, are a force in the post and tear down big boards. Fourth year returning point guard, Amy Sherman, used her experience to help the team to victory. Our guards, Ilana Naiman, Ronnie Fishman and Shayna Markowitz, Laura Elman drive the ball down the court and attack the gaps. With their manager, Jenna Bendayan, supporting and recording their every move, the Tiger Girls are prepared to compete hard in the tournament. The girls’ would never be able to succeed without the guidance and commitment of their returning coaches, Aubrey Zimmerman, and a former CHAT Tiger herself, Amanda Suchter.

Boys Varsity: With an influx of youth, the Tigers hope for a successful and productive season. Sy Herling, Irv Mintz and Michael Kohl return once again to lead the team and former starter Tunny Warner, an integral part in the teams success at the YU tournament years ago, has volunteered his time to add some much needed youth to the coaching staff. Boys Varsity: This year’s Knights after coming off of a strong 3rd place finish in last years tournament will be led by 6”6, 195 lb center Yonah Dorfman. The hopes are high for the Knights this year who in addition to Dorfman have a big front court which is complemented by sweet shooter Rafi Rosenberg. The knights will rely heavily on their team chemistry and the combination of big men and sharp shooters in order to succeed. Coach Jason Blackwood has expressed his confidence in this year’s team.
